A Twitter Meme Becomes Real, Causes 47-Car Pileup
A joke about a highway speed limit became such an internet meme that drivers started following it, causing traffic chaos.
What Happened
The meme: "Road signs in my head say the speed limit is 177 mph." It was funny because it was obviously fake. Except drivers started unironically driving 177 mph.
On I-95, traffic suddenly bottlenecked because 40+ cars were doing exactly 177 mph, in a line, like it was a protest or something. It wasn't organized—drivers were independently following a meme.
Why This Matters
The internet can literally affect reality. Memes have real-world consequences.
Deeper Context
In 2026, the line between the internet and real life has completely dissolved.
